Artist as Entrepreneur Boot Camp
Last week I attended a four-day book camp for Artists as Entrepreneurs. It taught us how to hone our marketing, legal, business and other skills.
But it did so much more for me. I’ve been working on my performance art for theaters, museums, Performing Arts Centers and other venues. It is not a magic show. It is a performance art piece about magic, its history, my relationship to it, and the value of wonder.
This boot camp taught me the to value the art so much more than any tricks or effects. I had known that, of course, but being around other types of artist and being taught by people who really know art, and the business side of art really drove it home.
I’m am psyched to be working on more thoughtful and artistic magic now.
The boot camp was made possible by the New York Foundation for the Arts and the New York State Council on the Arts, and was facilitated by the Roxbury Arts Group in Roxbury, NY. I am very thankful to all of them, and their incredible facilitators.
Indeed ! It was very well organized and managed in every way. The real surprise was that all who were there came with an open mind and shared their hopes and experiences freely, to everyone’s benefit. I did not expect to learn
this much in so short a time and hope to keep riding this wave. Expecting to see you and the others there as well.
Good Luck,
